Roulant’s agricultural programs aim to build healthy, just and sustainable food systems. Our agricultural projects are designed to support local and organic agriculture, while ensuring accessibility of the fruit of our labor to all layers of society, regardless of socio-economic status, level of mobility or degree of ‘autonomy. Through intensive and organic production, we manage to feed both our community and the other programs of the Roulant. Thanks to our various groups of volunteers, we are also able to transmit our horizontal organizational model of decision-making, to allow Montrealers to immerse themselves in more technical aspects of urban agriculture and to get involved in their community.

job description

Santropol Roulant is looking for an experienced farmer to lead the team at our small organic farm in Senneville. The successful candidate will work closely with the administrative team and agricultural coordinators on our agricultural practices and operations, as well as with our administrative team in order to take care of human relations, maintain a high level of engagement from our community and ensure that our farm meets the objectives of its program: to increase food security for Montrealers by providing organic food to our community of members. The work environment is highly collaborative and we are delighted to welcome another member to our team of farmers! Here are some key impact areas for this role:

Administration: manage budgets, sales targets, costs and capital expenditures; develop communication and sales strategies; comply with organic certification standards; represent the farm to partners and external parties.

Human resources: Manage the schedules of agricultural staff; meet labor needs and assist hiring and selection committees; develop training and development plans related to agricultural practices and operations; maintain quality and efficient agricultural practices; develop systems to welcome, guide and supervise volunteers on the farm;

Agricultural practices: implement the objectives of crop rotation, soil fertility and production in accordance with best local practices; optimize planting techniques and pest control methodology; establish methods of harvest, storage and transport, guarantee their quality, ensure that the temperature and handling procedures are appropriate;

Operations: manage greenhouse equipment, structures and tunnels, irrigation and pumping systems, land installation, hand and power tools, and farm equipment fleet. Provide or delegate repair, maintenance or acquisition of equipment, if necessary.


  • 2-3 years of managerial experience in organic farming, agricultural production or agricultural engineering
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Certification in agriculture, agronomy or agricultural techniques an asset

Applicants must demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:

  • Useful support: stimulating excellent reception, interpersonal communication skills and bilingualism
  • Monitor your own performance that of the farm team. Make improvements, mentor and take corrective action.
  • Judgment and decision making: the ability to make the most appropriate choices independently or collectively.


The starting salary for this position is $ 17.69 per hour and includes certain other benefits, such as an annual welfare allowance, discretionary funds for training and development, and three weeks vacation…

Further information

This role will require regular or daily trips between the Roulant farm in Senneville, located in the west of the island, and our downtown offices, for meetings, on-farm teams and for transporting vegetables to the steps. Candidates should be able to move heavy loads, use power tools and work in a variety of weather conditions from early spring to late fall.
